The winter solstice marks the shortest day of the year – and thus, the longest night. What better time to appreciate some of the most beautiful flowers that bloom at night?

While most people are getting ready for the holidays (you can shop our Christmas Collection here), December 21st also marks an important event in the astronomical calendar: the winter solstice. For people in the Northern Hemisphere (everywhere north of the Equator), December 21st initiates the first day of winter – which isn’t always welcomed by people who prefer warm weather.

If you’re one who dreads dark winter days, now is the time to cheer up with some of our sunniest blooms, like Golden Sun or Sunny Fresh. These bright flower bouquets are sure to kick the winter blues right to the curb!

Believe it or not, many people do welcome winter with open arms (covered in plenty of layers, of course). So December 21st marks a special event. Most people recognize the winter solstice, also called the winter equinox, as the ‘shortest day of the year’ because it has the shortest window of sunlight from dawn to dusk.

While flowers are often associated with the long, sunny days of spring and summer, there are actually many different flower varieties that bloom in darkness. Believe it or not, some of these night-blooming flowers are highly sought after because of their rarity. Whether you love winter or you’re counting down the days till summer, you’ve got to admit that it’s pretty cool to see flowers that bloom at night.
